How Much Mulch Do You Need?

Mulch is sold in 2 or 3 cu. ft. bags
9(3 cu. ft.) bags = 1 cu. yd of mulch
27 cu. ft. = 1 cu. yd.

To figure cubic yards take the length x width x depth in feet divided by 27 = cubic yards.

Example: a bed measuring 20’ x 12’ x 4”(.33) = 79.2 cubic feet Divided by 27 = 2.93 cubic yards

One cubic yard covers:
324 sq. ft. @ 1” depth
162 sq. ft @ 2” depth
108 sq. ft. @ 3” depth
81 sq. ft. @ 4” depth
65 sq. ft. @ 5” depth
54 sq. ft. @ 6” depth

How Much Stone Do You Need?

Stone sold in 50# bags
40 bags = 1 ton

One ton of crushed stone or gravel covers:
220 sq. ft. @ 1” depth
110 sq. ft. @ 2” depth
73 sq. ft. @ 3” depth
36 sq. ft. @ 4” depth
Rule of thumb: 1.5 tons = 1 cu. yd.

1 flat of Ivy or Pachysandra (100 cuttings per flat) will cover:·
25 square feet on 6” centers·
44 square feet on 8” centers·
100 square feet on 12” centers

1 flat of Vinca (50 peat pots per flat) will cover:·
