What do you need for a successful water garden? A good plan that places a pond with a minimum of 6 hours of sun daily, away from tree roots and low areas in the landscape that tend to collect water. Shady ponds make excellent fish ponds, but water lilies, lotus and other flowering plants will not thrive under large trees, deprived of sunlight. You will want a low maintenance filter system and high quality building materials.
