Embracing Seasonality

“When does this plant arrive?” or “Why can’t I find that plant right now?” are questions we often are asked. Just as farm-to-table dining celebrates the seasonal arrival of ingredients at peak flavor, we (and our growers) similarly embrace nature’s timing with our plant selection and availability.

Our plants come directly from trusted growers who propagate according to the natural cycle. While many shrubs, trees, and perennials offer year-round appeal through their foliage, texture, and structure, we typically receive them at or near their blooming peak when they can be most captivating. Photos and descriptions can really only hint at a plant’s beauty – seeing and experiencing it in person, especially during peak bloom, allows you to fully appreciate the vibrant colors, forms, and fragrances. This timing allows you to envision their full potential in your garden, though their beauty often extends far beyond the flowering season.

Like finding fresh peas at the market in spring or ripe tomatoes in summer, you’ll find hellebores and spring ephemerals  such as the Virginia Bluebells pictured above) in early spring, vibrant Monarda looking its best in mid-summer, and asters in full bloom come late-summer.
