Trees Worth Celebrating

The Tree at the Heart of Your Home

This year, we return to Smokey Holler Tree Farm, the premiere Christmas Tree farm in the country. Grown in the high elevations of the Southern Appalachians, their native range, each tree is carefully pruned, shaped, and sheared for at least 10 to 14 years before they are cut and delivered to Gateway. Smokey Holler estimates each tree receives over 100 moments of skilled, individual attention to shape it into the perfect tree.

Fraser Firs, the Ideal Tree

We believe Fraser firs offer the best combination of traits which make them the top choice for Christmas trees. Their needles are softer than spruce needles and don’t irritate the hands. The branches of Fraser firs are dense, strong, and upwardly angled, giving the trees a full appearance, and allows for the hanging heavier ornaments. They have a long-lasting fragrance with fills the room. And with proper watering, excellent needle retention -staying fresh and full through the entire season.

What Makes Smokey Holler Different

We partner exclusively with Smokey Holler because their trees are simply the best. Side by side with other trees, Smokey Holler’s trees are always denser, richer in color, and more perfectly shaped. We’ve also found their trees have superior needle retention. While we’ve worked with different growers in the past, once the trees were on display the difference in quality was obvious.

Care Is Simple

Immediately after getting your tree home, place it in a sturdy stand with at least one gallon of water capacity. If not being put up until later, place it in a bucket of water and in a cool dark space like a garage until  Keep it away from heat sources. Check the water daily.

Do this, and your tree will stay beautiful for weeks, easily holding your lights and ornaments, and filling your home with fragrance. It will look as good on Christmas morning as it did the day you brought it home.

Visit Early!

Smokey Holler trees are highly allocated and available to us in limited quantities, especially their tallest trees. For the best selection, we recommend coming early in the season. Our team will help you choose the right tree, give it a fresh cut, and bundle and load it onto your vehicle. We’re also here to answer any questions you might have about care.
