The Plight of the Monarch — A Pollinator Month Talk
This National Pollinator Month, we’re turning our attention to one of the most remarkable travelers in the natural world: the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus). Delaware sits right in the monarch migration path, which makes our gardens an important link in the chain that carries these butterflies south each fall. Join us on Wednesday, June 17th for an in-store talk on what monarchs need and how every garden can help.
Meet the speaker: Gary Liska
Our talk is led by Gary Liska, a longtime monarch subject-matter expert and owner of Monarch Butterfly Food & Fuel Garden, LLC. Gary recently designed and installed the state’s first Monarch Butterfly Food & Fuel conservatory for migratory monarchs at Cape Henlopen State Park. He’ll cover the physiology of the monarch, what makes it unique, its food and fuel needs, what goes into the “perfect” pollinator garden, and the latest 2026 science on monarch populations — and he’ll stay after to answer every question.
