In Celebration of the Crabapple

In Celebration of the Crabapple

Greetings from the Garden,

What a magical time to be outdoors! The landscape is teeming with life and natural beauty as spring has officially sprung.

Just out my front door, exploding with fragrant blooms, is one of nature’s true gems – the flowering crabapple tree. Its sculptural, showy branches have become the focal point of the garden, a tranquil spot to relax, and a buzzing sanctuary for bees, pollinators, and other wildlife.

And the joys of the crabapple don’t end with the blooms. In the fall, the foliage transforms to dazzling shades of red, orange, and bronze and tiny fruits will emerge. These fruits won’t drop or make a mess, which can be a concern with some fruit trees, but instead will bring a great variety of birds who visit to enjoy the fruits.

I highly encourage you to explore the world of ornamental crabapples for yourself. In stock now are ‘Prairifire’ and ‘Sugar Tyme’ varieties, shown below. Our team of horticulture experts at Gateway are eager to work with you, ensuring that you choose the perfect crabapple variety to enjoy for many seasons to come.
